We led at half time by 4points as a result of 2 clinical finishes by James Rourke.
The second half there was a bit more space to be found and both teams used the foot more which was great to see. Gavin Daly, Hughie Cunniffe and Daniel Keenan came into their own during this half and we weathered the pressure in the last few minutes well by a resurgent Clann team. Ronan Doyle was man of the match with a complete performance throughout. We won on a final scoreline of 4/7 to 2/7

Our Under 12 Division 5 Side traveled to Woodmount om Saturday evening to play Padraig Pearses. The first half was a very tight affair. However the home side aided by a strong breeze push on in the second half to win comfortably

Our Div 2 Under 12 went down to a determined, committed St. Aidans in Ballyforan on Sunday morning.

U14 Boys

St. Brigid’s U14’s travelled the considerable distance to play Kilmore in the picturesque village of Ballyfarnon in North Roscommon at the foot of Arigna Mountain.

The lads from Kiltoom Cam took charge of this game from the start with Sean Minnock opening the scoring with a point on his left. This was followed by a Brendan Murphy goal and a Sol Trundle point. Andrew Sheffield had a fine first half performance in corner forward position and scored the first of his hat-trick of goals after some excellent approach work from Billy Ray Dolan and Killian Curley. Indeed Dolan, Curley and Sheffield were in fine form with the forward line combining to score an impressive first half tally of 3-04 between them.  Kilmore kept pressing however Cormac Meeley, Daniel Skene, Luke Sylvester and Robert Keenan were in fine form in defence for St Brigid’s, this together with the work rate of Sol Trundle, Sean Minnock and Brendan Murphy in the midfield sector helped in restricting Kilmore to 1-03 in the first half.

St Brigid’s started the second half as they did the first with Luke Sylvester winning the throw in before soloing forward and passing to Robert Keenan who scored the first of his two second half goals. The home team to their credit rallied in the second half but the deficit proved too much to claw back and Sean Minnock and Brendan Murphy added goals to put the result beyond doubt.

This was a strong performance from all the St. Brigid’s lads but special mention goes to Killian Curley who was tenacious and full of strong running throughout.

Squad: Luke Sylvester, Daniel Skene, Cormac Meeley, Robert Keenan (2-00), Sol Trundle (0-01), Sean Minnock (1-01), Brendan Murphy (2-00), Killian Curley (0-03), Billy Ray Dolan (1-03), Andrew Sheffield (3-00)

U14 Football League Division One

St Brigid’s endured a tough evening versus a strong Strokestown team in Kiltoom on Thursday April 12th. Strokestown raced into an early lead scoring 1-02 in the opening minutes, St Brigid’s responded with a good opening score from Bobby Nugent after some good work from Alex O’Donohue. St. Brigid’s scored another point soon after with James Dillion winning the ball in midfield before passing inside to Luke Whelan who slotted over for a fine score. Strokestown scored another point when responding quickest to a free kick that hit the post. St Brigid’s  enjoyed a purple patch and scored two points courtesy of Brendan Murphy with Bobby Nugent provided the assists for both scores. The next score was the best of the game for St Brigid’s with David Dolan intercepting the  ball excellently on his full back line, setting up a wonderful flowing movement involving Bobby Nugent, Alex O’Donohue and finally Brendan Murphy who found Luke Whelan in space to score a point to make the score 1-03 to 0.05. Unfortunately this was as good as it got for the home team, as Strokestown had the better of the rest of first half and indeed the game to end up comfortable winners on the evening.

This was a tough assignment for the lads from Kiltoom Cam, not helped by having to field seven U13 players at this age level.

Best for St Brigid’s were David Dolan,Paddy Higgins, Bobby Nugent who battled hard for their team right to the end and Brendan Murphy & Luke Whelan up front who with little opportunity contributed with excellent points. All players battled bravely to the end, but just had no answer to physically stronger and faster opposition.  No doubt there will be better days for the lads if they keep together and work hard.

Squad:  Eanna McDonnell, Robert Keenan,  David Dolan, Cormac Meeley, Luke Sylvester, Paddy Higgins, Bryan Armstrong, Bobby Nugent (0-2), James Dillion, Eoin Reid, Alex O’Donohue, Sol Trundle, Luke Whelan (0-03), Billy Ray Dolan, Brendan Murphy (0-02), Killian Curley & Andrew Sheffield

U16 Boys

Our U16 Div 1 team played Kilmore/Shannon gaels in Kiltoom. We played well throughout with workrate kept high with Brian O Hara Duggan setting the standard. Great to see the younger lads settling in.We had a comfortable win with plenty of lads getting runs.
Our U16 Div 4 team played two matches the first against Western Gaels/Tulsk. We were up against it here with them having some strong running players who knew how to score. Our lads learned lessons in this one and we were bet convincingly on a scoreline of 4/12 to 0/7.
We then had to play St. Croans in Enfield. We needed to win to progress to a league semi finals. The lads came early and were up for this one and played with great energy. We played with a strong wind in the first half and built up a good lead which we defended excellently in the second half. There was cool finishing from James Rourke, great defending by Ronan Doyle and arrows from the legend Jammer. Great team performance.
