U12 Boys

Our Under 12 Division 5 Side traveled to Woodmount om Saturday evening to play Padraig Pearses. The first half was a very tight affair. However the home side aided by a strong breeze push on in the second half to win comfortably

Our Div 2 Under 12 went down to a determined, committed St. Aidans in Ballyforan on Sunday morning.

Under 12 Squad
Finnan Kilcommins, Adam Feeley, Niall Daly, Cathal Ferry, Brendan Ferry, Conor Skene, Matthew O' Connor, Kealan Casey, James Morris, Jack Lennon, Tom Warby, Ben Ward Jack Kinahan and Donagh McCarthy
Jack Tully, Kian Mulligan, Michael Henehan, Jamie Fox, Charlie O'Carroll, Niall Derwin, Josh Dowling, Ryan Lawless and Roan Trundle

U14 Boys

St. Brigid’s U14’s travelled the considerable distance to play Kilmore in the picturesque village of Ballyfarnon in North Roscommon at the foot of Arigna Mountain.

The lads from Kiltoom Cam took charge of this game from the start with Sean Minnock opening the scoring with a point on his left. This was followed by a Brendan Murphy goal and a Sol Trundle point. Andrew Sheffield had a fine first half performance in corner forward position and scored the first of his hat-trick of goals after some excellent approach work from Billy Ray Dolan and Killian Curley. Indeed Dolan, Curley and Sheffield were in fine form with the forward line combining to score an impressive first half tally of 3-04 between them.  Kilmore kept pressing however Cormac Meeley, Daniel Skene, Luke Sylvester and Robert Keenan were in fine form in defence for St Brigid’s, this together with the work rate of Sol Trundle, Sean Minnock and Brendan Murphy in the midfield sector helped in restricting Kilmore to 1-03 in the first half.

St Brigid’s started the second half as they did the first with Luke Sylvester winning the throw in before soloing forward and passing to Robert Keenan who scored the first of his two second half goals. The home team to their credit rallied in the second half but the deficit proved too much to claw back and Sean Minnock and Brendan Murphy added goals to put the result beyond doubt.

This was a strong performance from all the St. Brigid’s lads but special mention goes to Killian Curley who was tenacious and full of strong running throughout.

Squad: Luke Sylvester, Daniel Skene, Cormac Meeley, Robert Keenan (2-00), Sol Trundle (0-01), Sean Minnock (1-01), Brendan Murphy (2-00), Killian Curley (0-03), Billy Ray Dolan (1-03), Andrew Sheffield (3-00)

U14 Football League Division One

St Brigid’s endured a tough evening versus a strong Strokestown team in Kiltoom on Thursday April 12th. Strokestown raced into an early lead scoring 1-02 in the opening minutes, St Brigid’s responded with a good opening score from Bobby Nugent after some good work from Alex O’Donohue. St. Brigid’s scored another point soon after with James Dillion winning the ball in midfield before passing inside to Luke Whelan who slotted over for a fine score. Strokestown scored another point when responding quickest to a free kick that hit the post. St Brigid’s  enjoyed a purple patch and scored two points courtesy of Brendan Murphy with Bobby Nugent provided the assists for both scores. The next score was the best of the game for St Brigid’s with David Dolan intercepting the  ball excellently on his full back line, setting up a wonderful flowing movement involving Bobby Nugent, Alex O’Donohue and finally Brendan Murphy who found Luke Whelan in space to score a point to make the score 1-03 to 0.05. Unfortunately this was as good as it got for the home team, as Strokestown had the better of the rest of first half and indeed the game to end up comfortable winners on the evening.

This was a tough assignment for the lads from Kiltoom Cam, not helped by having to field seven U13 players at this age level.

Best for St Brigid’s were David Dolan,Paddy Higgins, Bobby Nugent who battled hard for their team right to the end and Brendan Murphy & Luke Whelan up front who with little opportunity contributed with excellent points. All players battled bravely to the end, but just had no answer to physically stronger and faster opposition.  No doubt there will be better days for the lads if they keep together and work hard.

Squad:  Eanna McDonnell, Robert Keenan,  David Dolan, Cormac Meeley, Luke Sylvester, Paddy Higgins, Bryan Armstrong, Bobby Nugent (0-2), James Dillion, Eoin Reid, Alex O’Donohue, Sol Trundle, Luke Whelan (0-03), Billy Ray Dolan, Brendan Murphy (0-02), Killian Curley & Andrew Sheffield

U16 Boys

Our U16 Div 1 team played Kilmore/Shannon gaels in Kiltoom. We played well throughout with workrate kept high with Brian O Hara Duggan setting the standard. Great to see the younger lads settling in.We had a comfortable win with plenty of lads getting runs.
Our U16 Div 4 team played two matches the first against Western Gaels/Tulsk. We were up against it here with them having some strong running players who knew how to score. Our lads learned lessons in this one and we were bet convincingly on a scoreline of 4/12 to 0/7.
We then had to play St. Croans in Enfield. We needed to win to progress to a league semi finals. The lads came early and were up for this one and played with great energy. We played with a strong wind in the first half and built up a good lead which we defended excellently in the second half. There was cool finishing from James Rourke, great defending by Ronan Doyle and arrows from the legend Jammer. Great team performance.
Panel of lads involved are Oran Benton,Fergal Cunniffe, Jamie Curley, Brian O Hara Duggan, Shane Daly, Ronan Doyle, Gavin Daly, Kevin Derwin, Michael Dillon, Ruairi Fallon, Shane Finnerty, Harry Griselain, James Goose, Conor Hand, James "Jammer" Halpin, Liam Hennelly, Daniel Keenan, Luke Murphy, Daniel Meeley, Brian Monaghan, Ben O Carroll, Thomas O Brien, Luke O Rourke, Ultan O Rourke, James Rourke, Adam Samuels, Michael Sugrue, Sean Trundle, David Dolan, James Dillon, Bobby Nugent, Alex O Donohue.

U14 Boys Spring League Div 1
Our U14s had a busy week with 2 Div 1 games.

On Tue we had a home game V Roscommon Gaels and were comprehensively beaten by a very strong  Gaels team.

On Sat morning we played Clan and a much improved performance just fell short of achieving a victory.

Clann na nGael   4-03       St. Brigid’s 1-07

St Brigid’s U14’s travelled to Johnstown to play an entertaining tight encounter against Clann na nGael.

The home team settled into the game better and scored 1-02 without reply in the opening minutes. St Brigid’s opened their account with Brendan Murphy showing well in the full forward position to claim the ball before being fouled, Bobby Nugent slotted over the resulting free. St. Brigid’s added a second point with Murphy again fouled after good approach play from Bobby Nugent, this time Nugent elected to take the free quickly to Eoin Reid who slotted over from close range.  St. Brigid’s were now in the groove and scored a fantastic team score with David Dolan typically tenacious in winning the ball back for this team, Bryan Armstrong, Alex O’Donohue and Bobby Nugent combined before releasing Eanna McDonnell who scored to make the score 1-02 to 0-03 with twenty minutes played. The home team responded with a goal after St. Brigid’s found themselves outnumbered at the back. St. Brigid’s though rallied and finished the first half scoring with another pointed free from Bobby Nugent after some good work from Sol Trundle to leave the half time score 2-02 to 0-04 to the home team.

St. Brigid’s were determined to cut the deficit early in the second half and were unlucky not to score a goal when Bobby Nugent rattled the crossbar from a quickly taken freekick after Luke Whelan was fouled. St. Brigid’s continued on the front foot with the impressive Bryan Armstrong getting out in front of his man before passing to Alex O’Donohue who scored an excellent point. The momentum was now with St. Brigid’s with Paddy Higgins driving his team forward at every opportunity and indeed they produced a bit of magic with Sol Trundle and Bobby Nugent combining to release Alex O’Donohue who levelled the game at 2-02 to 1-05, scoring a powerful goal after a surging run through the Clann na nGael defence. St. Brigid’s then took the lead with just over ten minutes remaining when O’Donohue added another point. The home team responded to re-take the lead scoring their third goal. St. Brigid’s then reduced the deficit to the bare minimum after James Dillion punched the ball over the bar from a Bobby Nugent free kick. Clann however responded with a fine point from distance to stretch the lead again to two points. With minutes remaining St. Brigid’s were unlucky not to re-take the lead when BillyRay Dolan passed inside to O’Donohue’s whose goal bound shot was cleared off the line. Clann na nGael scored with the last kick of the game to finally end the St Brigid’s challenge in an enthralling end to end game.

In the end the concession of four goals proved costly for St. Brigid’s however it was a good team performance, best on the day for St. Brigid’s were David Dolan, Daniel Skene, Paddy Higgins, Bryan Armstrong, Bobby Nugent and Alex O’Donohue with U13 players Luke Sylvester and Sean Minnock also producing brilliant performances in defence.

Squad:  Matthew Samuels, Luke Sylvester, David Dolan, Daniel Skene, Seán Minnock, Paddy Higgins, Bryan Armstrong, Bobby Nugent (0-2), James Dillion (0-1), Eoin Reid (0-1), Alex O’Donohue (1-02), Sol Trundle, Luke Whelan, Brendan Murphy, Eanna McDonnell (0-1), BillyRay Dolan, Robert Keenan, Andrew Sheffield, Cormac Meeley & Killian Curley.

Fashion Show

Wow absolutely blown away by the spectacular fashion show that we had last Thursday night in the Hodson Bay Hotel. It was a superb start to our Oskars fundraisers. There was so much to see from the fabulous exhibitors to all the Spring-Summer fashion on the catwalk. Massive thanks to everyone that attended the show. Huge thanks to all the wonderful shops for providing the fashion and assisting with the models on the night. Many thanks to all the exhibitors for their support. We found some serious hidden talent in our models on the night, well done to each and every one of you, you were amazing. We cannot thank our ticket sellers enough especially the Ladies and Minor committees for the huge effort they made to sell tickets. Thank you to our MC for the night the beautiful Wanda and of course Mr Ireland 2016 Darren King. As always we could not host events like these without the support of our main sponsors The Hodson Bay Hotel, thank you for all your help and assistance, we are never left wanting. And finally of course we always save the best to last, absolutely none of this would have been possible without the tireless work of five great women: Sissy Frost, Fionnuala Hughes, Jean Haran, Yolande Holtkamp and Marie McDonnell.

St. Patrick’s Day

As St. Patrick’s Day is a big day in the sporting calendar the clubhouse bar will be open showing the All Ireland Club Finals and the Ireland vs England rugby game with both TVs going so you don’t miss any of the action. Finger food will be served and we will have entertainment that night from local musicians.

U16 Boys Division 4

St. Brigid’s 4-10, Padraig Pearses 3-4.

Our U16 boys Division 4 team played Padraig Pearses in Kiltoom last Monday night. On a cold evening we were entertained by a high level commitment and energy by both teams. We picked our scores off early in the first half with lads taking their own shots when in the right place which is always encouraging. The scoreline was 1/8 to 0/3 at halftime. On the resumption we were under pressure from Pearses who got two goals but our lads settled down and started to use the spaces. We lost Jamie Curley due to injury so we played the remainder with 14 lads. The scores came eventually and we won on a scoreline of 4/10 to 3/4. With great performances throughout Liam Hennelly, James Goose and Michael Dillon were solid in defence while up front Adam Samuels and Harry Griselain were ruthless in possession
Team: Oran Benton, Jamie Curley, Shane Daly,  Ronan Doyle, Kevin Derwin, Michael Dillon, Harry Griselain, James Goose, James Halpin, Liam Hennelly, Daniel Keenan, Daniel Meeley, Luke O Rourke, James Rourke, Adam Samuels.
