U14 Boys

Our U14’s have had a very busy few weeks with 5 championship games over the past few weeks. First up was our  Div 1 team who had a narrow 1 point victory over Pearses in Kiltoom. Despite not playing at their best, the lads dug deep to grind out the victory to get a very valuable 2 points on a score line of 3-04 to 14 points. There were good performances on the night from Kevin Derwin in goals  who made some magnificent saves, Daniel Meeley, Adam Donovan,Micheal Sugrue, Daniel Keenan and Bobby Nugent.

On the same night night, our Div 4 team made the long trip away to St.Croans. Despite a good performance, the team was well beaten by a strong Croans team. There were good performances from Bryan Armstrong and Eanna McDonald. All of the U12 acquitted themselves well on the night and Brendan Murphy, Sean Minnock, Luke Sylvestor and Robert Keenan can be happy with their efforts.

Next up was the Div 1 team away to St.Ciarans. This was a much improved performance against a very young but skilful Ciarans team. The team played very well over the full hour, and ran out easy winners in the end. Brian Gonoly, James Rourke, Jamie Curley,Brian Nestor,  Shane Daly and Hughie Cunniffe played well on the night.

The Div 4 team picked up their first batch of championship points against Pearses in Kiltoom on Tue last. Fielding a very young side, the lads played some lovely football and got some great scores. This was a very high scoring game, and both sides were fully committed to attacking football.  In the full forward line Alex O’Donoghue and Luke Whelan combined brilliantly throughout the game and the Pearses defence were unable to handle their movement and finishing power.  Brendan Murphy, Cormac Meeley and Eanna McDonald added industry, creativity and scoring to complete a great performance by the forwards.  In midfield Paddy Higgins, James Goose and Oran Benton displayed great vision and provided excellent quality ball into the forwards. Harry Griselain, Robert Keenan, Noah Heavy defended brilliantly throughout and set up many attacks through excellent passing. In goal Matthew made some wonderful saves and his kick passing from the hand was always crisp and accurate.

On Thu night, the Div 1 team took on Boyle in Kiltoom and got another 2 championship points on the board. Boyle as always, played some lovely football, and got the first score. Both teams traded points for the next 10 minutes, though each were guilty of a lot of wides.  After a few minor positional switches, our lads then found their scoring touch and for the next 20 minutes proceeded to add a further 3 goals and 5 points to open up a healthy lead at the break. Some of the scores were brilliantly worked, with long, accurate kick passing and clever movement used to open up the Boyle defence.

Boyle came out for the second half in a confident mood and added some early scores to keep the game alive. Eventually Brigids got to grips with their opponents and worked their way back into the game. We added a further 01-10 in the second half and ran out comfortable winners in the end.

Due to holidays and injurys, we were missing a few players. Stand in goalies, Hughie and James Goose both had great performances, in goal and out the field. Adam, Davy, Shane, Daniel, Ronan and Micheal were brilliant in defense. Thomas had his best game of the season in midfield and Conors pace and power was a constant threat to the Boyle defence. The forwards all played well with some brilliant point taking from Daniel, Brian, Bobby, James and Paddy.

Next up are Clan and St.Faithleach’s and both teams will need to be at their best to get points from each of these games.

Minor Boys

St. Brigids minor team had a comprehensive win over Roscommon Gaels last Friday night in Kiltoom. The damage was done in the first half as Brigids held a lead of 6-10 to 0-3 at the short whistle. A goal in the first attack of the game from Brian Derwin set the tone, and that was followed by goals from Donnacha Gately, Paul McGrath and a Ruairí Smith hat trick. The goal tally was added to in the second half by Cian Daly and a penalty from Derwin. Defensively Brigids were also well on top with good showings from Eoin Minagh, John Leonard and Pearce Frost. That makes it two from two, and we now move on to the next game on Thursday against Oran. Well done to all involved.
