ST BRIGIDS MINOR COMMITTEE NOTES WEEK ENDING AUGUST 3RD2014

Minors: The RBK sponsored minor team are scheduled to play Pádraig Pearses in Kiltoom on Friday next,August 8th in round 2 of the Division 1 championship.

U-16s:The Duggan Coaches sponsored U-16s’ scheduled  game against St Faithleachs last Wednesday evening was postponed.

U-14s: The Homewatch sponsored U-14 team have qualified for the Division 1 final following a play-off victory over Castlerea on Sunday last (3rd August 2014) in Kiltoom. Following a closely fought game, St Brigid's prevailed on a scoreline of 5-9 to 5-5. In the Division 1 final scheduled for Saturday next, August 9th, they will face Clann na Gael, marking the third time these teams have met in the championship. The team will be hoping to put a big performance against a very strong Clann outfit. About half of the St Brigid’s team are underage again next year while this will be the last year at U-14 level for the majority of the Clann side. On Tuesday of last week, St Brigid’s put in a huge performance away to the same Clann na Gael team in the initial Division 1 play-off tie on Tuesday last in Ballyforan. The game was all square at half-time, setting up an intriguing second half but Clann started strongly after the break and kept a stranglehold on the game until the finish. Well done to the Division 4 team who defeated St Croan’s in the play-offs on Thursday last in Kiltoom on a scoreline of 3-16 to 4-4. They now qualify for the final, which is also scheduled to be played next weekend. Players will be notified of full details of the Division 1 and 4 finals during the week. We wish both teams the very best of luck in their respective finals.

U-10s: The Sheraton Hotel sponsored U-10s had two fixtures in the Clann na Gael tournament in the last week. On Monday of last week, they played St.Dominic’s in Kiltoom while on Wednesday, they travelled to play Tubberclair. Against St Dominics, the U-10 team was beaten by 2 scores while the U-9s had a great win over Dominic’s, running out winners by six scores. There were great performances by Ewan, Sean, Luke, Robert, Brian and Thomas. Meanwhile, two wins were recorded against Tubberclair. The U-9s won a very close game by one score and there were great performances from Killian, Charlie, James, Billy Ray, Cormac and Niall. The U-9s have now won 3 games out of 3 in his competition and are showing great heart and commitment. The results are a great reward for all their efforts and hard work. The U-10 team also won by 1 score in a game dominated by a strong wind. St Brigid’s led by 6 scores at half time but Tubberclair fought their way back into the game. The U-10s eventually managed to get on the scoresheet in the second half, securing the winning score with the last attack of the game. Overall, table wise, St Brigid’s are among four teams sharing the same number of points at the top so it is proving to be a very competitive Clann na nGael tournament. There is now a three week break until the next round of this competition and training will continue as normal on Saturday morning and Wednesday evening.
